Narali Bhat – How To make Narali Bhat Recipe
Ingredients
- Sugar - 300 g
- oil or Ghee - 2 tbsp
- Rice - 200 g
- fresh grated Coconut - 200 g
- Raisins - 10 to 12
- powdered Cardamoms - 5 to 6
- 5 to 6 Saffron strands soaked in a tbsp of Milk
- Almonds - 4 to 5
- salt - a pinch
- the juice of half a Lemon
- Ghee - 3 to 4 tsp
Instructions
- First wash the rice thoroughly. Then drain in a colander for at least 2 hours. Then in a deep pan, heat the 2 tbsp of oil then add 1 cup of water and cook the rice till the grains are separate but not soft.
- Then remove from the heat and stir in the sugar and coconut while the rice is still hot. Then replace the pan on the stove and cook over a low flame, then stirring occasionally.
- Now mix the rice gently so that the grains do not break and turn to mush. But the rice starts to bubble, then reduce the heat to minimum and stir in the lime juice.
- Now cover the pan and let the rice steam through once. Then remove the narali bhat from the heat. Now mix in the cardamoms, saffron and 4 tsp of ghee.
- Now place the dish in a serving bowl and garnish with varkh, raisins, silvered almonds. Now this rice tastes good both hot or chilled, fresh or stale.
